Happy 2021 friends! I’m so excited to be back here on the blog after taking off the past 5 weeks. 2020 ended with lots of work, family and more work! While I feel incredibly blessed to have had so much work, I’m definitely burnt out and craving change. Being in the line of work that I do at MaZi Dance Fitness, I’m constantly reassessing my health, fitness and stamina. My verdict right now is: change is needed. Please message me if you’re interested in taking a class with me! Here’s 5 Healthy Resolutions for 2021 that I invite you to consider for yourself.
Gut Health
Gut health is one of those non-sexy topics that needs more air space. If you’re gut isn’t healthy, it’s very difficult for you to feel good and operate optimally. Having optimal flora in your gut helps your immunity, sleep, mood, digestion, weight and skin quality. Some ways to achieve gut health is doing a cleanse (classic one here), taking probiotics (I like this one), and eating yogurt like Activia.
I know I need a gut check when I’m breaking out more, I feel bloated and more exhausted and moody. I’m not committing to a full fledged cleanse this season, but I am having Activia for 2 weeks to help get me started.
Meditation
For my second Healthy Resolutions for 2021, I’m focusing on meditation. It’s often said that the people that say they don’t have time to meditate are the people that need it the most! I have been trying meditate for about 5 years now and I fail each time, so clearly it’s something I need to do. I’m a firm believer in making time for what’s important to me, and clearly I have not prioritized it so far.
It seems that everytime I listen to a podcast or interview with a highly successful individual, they always say meditation is a habit! I asked my Instagram community what apps they were using and they recommended: MyLife, Headspace, Calm and Ten Percent Happier. I actually started with a 5 minute Youtube video before diving into apps! Will update my finding here soon. 🙂
Finding Joy in the Little Things
A grateful heart is always going to help you maximize all your efforts. Gratitude has been challenging in some ways since 2020 for many of us, but in some ways it’s been easier! If you’re like me, it can be easy to get caught up in the daily grind and “what’s next?!” mentality. I’ve had to rewire my brain to a constant mantra of “thank you Lord”.
To make gratitude part of your daily practice you can do some of the following:
- Journal- Start each day with writing down 5 things you’re grateful for at the beginning of the day and 5 things that could make it better! This journal ,just ordered mine, is really popular for that. You can revisit at the end of the day to do the same.
- When you’re having a bad day, take a 5 minute time out to just breathe, mediate and pratice gratitude.
- When something good happens, you reach a goal or have a stroke of luck, make it intentional to celebrate!
Avoid the Fitness Fads
Every season, there will be a new fitness fad or more! I can’t even keep up anymore. While jumping on the fad can provide momentary gratification and inspiration, it will fade. Trust me. Instead of spending a lot of money on a fad or wasting time, spend time figuring out what YOU love to do. Check this fitness meaning post out if you need to do some soul searching.
With health and fitness, one must play the long game. There are no shortcuts, no quick fixes and no faking it. 🙂 By uncovering what you love to do for a workout, you will be able to make the healthy resolutions for the new year stick! Of course, for me it’s always about dancing and movement. I’m never happier, more present or more fit than when I dance for a workout. You can join me here!
Scheduling What’s Important
The best way to accomplish nearly all of goals and healthy resolutions for the new year are to schedule them! Time is at a premium right now, and we can’t wing it anymore. Kids home a lot, everyone home a lot, and wearing so many hats! If I want something done, I have to put it on the calendar. Recently, I discovered Microsoft365 as a tool to keep myself organized and it’s been really helpful. I primarily use outlook and OneNote, it’s like a virtual bulletin board for the family.
If I wasn’t scheduled to teach 4 classes a week I wouldn’t workout! It’s terrible. Using that mentality, if I just schedule it will happen. 🙂
