I used to make fun of beauty sleep but after 2020 and being 41, not anymore. Sleep is a great time to restore so here’s 5 ways to get beauty sleep to help you look and feel your best and delay aging! The earlier you start the more beneficial it will be for you down the road. So even if you’re in your 20’s, it’s never too early to delay aging.
5 Ways to Get Beauty Sleep
1. Limit Blue Light
Blue light is pretty bad for us! It ages us, hurts our eyesight, wakes up our brains and more. Make sure to get blue-light glasses to wear part of the day, blue-light blocking for your screens and even different light bulbs. Ones that I love are Sylvania Natural light bulbs. Limiting blue light will help you fall asleep faster, which is the first step in getting better beauty sleep!
2. The Right Pillowcase
Another great item to get the most out of your night’s rest is a beauty pillow! I’m loving this Mulberry Silk from Brooklinen. It decreases the friction in your face and protects your face too. I wake up with a smoother face and less lines! You can get $25 off a >$100 purchase on the site with code ZIBA25. If you want to take it a step further you can tape your face to combat lines, I’m not quite there yet but considering. 🙂 Don’t forget to change your pillowcase every 5-6 days!
3. Elevation
If at possible try to sleep slightly elevated, as high as feels comfortable! This will help prevent swelling in your face. Think of whenever you have a cold and have lots of drainage, it feels better to sleep slightly upright. It’s the same thing when you’re not sick but still want to keep fluids at a minimum going to your face. However, don’t forget to hydrate before bed or even keeping a humidifier in the room. It’s the best for keeping moisture in your skin!
4. AromaTherapy
Adding a soothing fragrance or essential oil will help you relax. I love this room perfume by Anthropologie in Lavendar Cashmere, it is very light but helps me feel more eager to get to bed. Over time, you associate a certain smell with bedtime and can get to bed a little easier. Some smells are also proven to relax you and promote feel good feelings.
5. Maximize Your Beauty Products
Bedtime is the perfect time to have your beauty products work their magic. I love slathering a hydrating moisturizer, overnight balm, retinols, you name it! As you sleep the body is naturally repaing itself, so it’s key to take advantage of that to promote even more restoration. Here are some of the products on my rotation!
My husband jokes that I’m the best sleeper but the truth is I struggle getting to sleep. My mind races and I’m ready to conquer anything at about 10 PM. It’s terrible! Once I am asleep, I can sleep like milk drunken baby so I have that going for me. Another thing that helps me fall asleep, if not gives me better beauty sleep, is journaling.
