Maybe it’s all the boys I’m around, but blue is like a “comfort food” and also a prime color that looks good on all skin tones. Physiologically we register the color as calming, confidence boosting and trusting…I’ll take it! The inspiration for this monochrome outfit was the navy velvet blazer and the blue over the knee boots. Maybe it’s from my days in a corporate office, but I really love blazers and jackets that take an outfit from super casual to an “I’m in charge” look! I couldn’t resist the blue velvet that gives it an unexpected festive feel and not too formal with the little belt.
With boots, I’m usually inclined to get neutrals that will work with everything. However, the over the knee blue boots make it a natural extension of the legs with blue jeans. A plus….creating the illusion of length (never gonna say no to longer legs) :)!
For finishing touches, I went with an embellished tissue thin white t-shirt with little blue and pink sequin accents with a very simple cut that wouldn’t create bulk under the blazer. To accentuate the blue tones, I paired blue-gray bead earrings that could “hang” with the whole outfit. For the bag, I chose a really cute find from a recent trip to Portugal that has these little row window sills in different colors with pops of blue! A similar one here from the same brand.
This is another outfit that will easily take you from work to play and the darker colors afford you a few coffee spills. The Blue Line restaurant (a Chicago Wicker Park staple) was serendipity as we stepped out to shoot the outfit. Do you like monochrome looks?! 😉
