Do you know that the most popular birthday month is September?! That means that many women conceive in December, fascinating right? I guess it’s not surprising as we look to more indoor activities as the weather cools but this is also the time of year where I’m not feeling super foxy. First of all, I’m never busier than RIGHT THIS SECOND. There’s holiday execution anxiety, kid school stuff, new projects that I began earlier this Fall, etc.! For example, I haven’t even been able to write a blog post for the past couple of weeks, which I apologize for. So this week I decided to take back control and do some things that make me feel put together and therefore on the road to “Foxy”! These are some things that help me feel good, balanced and attractive!
1. GETTING MY HAIR DONE!
Whether it’s cutting, blow drying or getting highlights, no service brings my confidence level up more than getting a solid hair DO! I love DreamDry Lincoln Park for blowouts, Hair by CM for color and Meraki Room for cuts in Chicago. There’s something about having organized bouncy hair that makes me feel like yup, I’m hot and capable! If you can’t get to the salon, make sure to check out my beach curls hair tutorial, which is how I got this do in these pics. Sometimes I can’t get to an appointment so knowing a great DIY technique is key!
2. DOING SOMETHING THAT SCARES ME.
The other day I took a big risk on a negotiation thanks to my husband’s advice and ended up on top! Call it the negotiation testosterone effect, aren’t men more likely to negotiate? Well, it was my turn now. I could’ve lost the deal and ended up with nothing but taking the risk made me feel alive and confident, and that leads to feeling attractive for me. Mindset is so much more important than the superficial things we do to feel attractive but they are both important! So keep looking for those opportunities to do something that is out of your comfort zone! You are worth it and more than capable.
3. MOVE
If it sounds like the cure for what ails me is always dancing, then you’re right, it is! It doesn’t have to be formal dancing or even a dancing class, just put some music on at home or in your backyard and move! I promise you that 10-15 minutes in you’ll feel “sexy” and alive! I don’t use the word sexy a lot because it’s so generic but in this case moving your body, sweating, getting your blood flowing and giving yourself a beautiful glow is in fact, sexy! Don’t make a big deal about it, just begin. When you are in a physical ongoing relationship with yourself and you take account of how how it feels to inhabit your body, you start gaining confidence, and confidence leads to feeling attractive! If you’re not moving on a regular basis, you’ll be out of touch of what’s like to be in you and your feelings could get muffled. It happened to me a long time ago in business school. I was trying so hard to make the grades, land the internship, and stifle the dancer in me that I stopped moving and it destroyed me. 6 months later I had put on about 20 pounds (a lot for my frame) and I didn’t know what it felt like to move in my body anymore and consequently confused about how I felt about EVERYTHING. I vowed to myself to never let it happen again no matter the stakes.
4. TAKE TIME FOR YOUR SKIN
I’m big into the phrase “comfortable in your own skin” because it’s such a visceral phrase. I think the literal and figurative meaning begins with taking care of your skin. For a long time, I’ve been so concerned with taking care of my face that I have not done the same with my entire body. For the past 2 months I’ve been deliberately taking 5 extra minutes most days to scrub with Brown Sugar Body Scrub in the shower and finish with Citrus Lemon Body Butter , both by BeautyCounter, right after and it’s made a huge difference in how my skin looks and feels. Having nice, soft exfoliated skin makes me feel like having it touched!
Well, those are my top “foxy” tips for Fall! I would love to hear yours!!! XO, Z
