The first earrings I remember having were dangle earrings in the form of tiny hoop earrings! As a teenager, I was greatly influenced by New York City Ballet American Ballerina style. Since most of my time growing up was spent in a ballet studio, I paid the most attention to what I wore in class and at rehearsal watching the styles closely in Dance Magazine and in video footage (this was before I could just call up YouTUBE). What my research revealed was that my ballet style icons wore crushed velvet leotards, black stirrup tights, tiny black skirts, dramatic eyes and the final touch was: dangle earrings! I religiously wore black eyeliner and small beady dangle earrings, ALWAYS. In retrospect there was a heavy Audrey Hepburn influence going on and the look of dangley earring adds perspective to the neckline that doesn’t happen with studs. Beyond the look, feeling the earrings against your face when you move your head was something of a reassurance and physics cue that I was in constant motion. I could barely do pirouettes without feeling my earrings against my cheek when I whipped around and can now attribute the reliance of these earrings akin to Dumbo’s feather. 🙂
To this day, when I teach my handful of dance fitness classes a week or the rare performance I wear these types of earrings and I feel naked without them! Some people may wonder why this lady is wearing jewelry to her workout, but to me it’s not just a workout, it’s my deep rooted identity and fashion statement! Do you have an accessory that will always be part of your day?
I was so happy when I found Shani Amara, the makers of this gorgeous pair of affordable black bead earrings that have a gold bee on them! I love the combination of black and gold, and bees are one of my favorite symbol, even though they are my one true phobia in real life. LOL! Their whole collection is full of inspired and original designs that you won’t see anywhere else! WIN! I love their mantra of “Jewelry for the eclectic dreamer and stargazer who believes in moon dust and wanderlust.” Here are my favorite earring designs from her site, but she also has necklaces, necklaces, rings and you get 20% off when you sign up for the newsletter! Check it out! XO, Z
