Facial Oils demystified, my top 3!

Facial oils aren’t losing momentum! In my search for the next best anti-aging agent, I have tried several. My skin care philosophy is prevention and trying to delay invasive measures for as long as possible.  Initially I was unsuccessful with facial oils because of user error and was constantly shiny. I quit them for about 6 months.

Then winter happened.

A few weeks ago I couldn’t believe how cracked my face looked and thought that maybe my usual routine wasn’t doing the trick anymore (more on my daily skincare routine in future post). I remembered the failed oils and tried them again and did it a little differently, these were the considerations;

  1. Application- You have to warm-up the oil in your hand with your finger and press it into your skin. You will hear (it’s crazy!) your skin absorbing it if you’re doing it correctly. You cannot rush this otherwise your skin will not absorb and you’ll end up with a Saran wrap look. Great on the Spring runway shows, not great at the grocery store.
  2. Time of Day – Night time is great because you don’t have to manage the shine. Sometimes if I have 3 minutes to put on my a.m. make-up, I’ll skip the oil.
  3. Exfoliate- Your skin cannot absorb the oil if it’s clogged, so use a gentle exfoliator,  I love this one and this one.

The Best Anti-ager

Sunday Riley Luna Oil

This oil has retinol infused so it’s very active when it comes to fighting wrinkles. Since it’s in oil form, the skin really drinks it in and the retinol didn’t irritate my skin the way other retinol products do. It is gentle and after a week I noticed results! Smoother lines, greater elasticity and a youthful brightness. This is a night oil only so you don’t have to deal with the shine during the day. Recommend if you’re interested in dabbling in retinols.

The Best Splurge

Vintner’s Daughter Botanical Serum

This one is quite pricey but it lasts a long time and probably worth it if you’re saving on other skin care procedures in the future.  Favorite things; it was the least greasy and shiny and brightened my face the most. It’s technically a serum with 22 active botanicals and essential oils that are organic and fight inflammation. I was not much into organic anything until I became a mama. Now, I always think about how what I’m wearing, my kids are wearing. They’re on me the whole time. Also, because of the anti-inflammatory properties, it’s recommended for acne scars. If you find that oils are for you and need some skin correcting, I would recommend investing in a little bottle of this potion.

The Best Value

Juice Beauty Organic Treatment Oil

This one is also organic, it’s reasonably priced and does the job! My skin felt really hydrated, radiant and elastic. To help control the shine, add a mineral based sunscreen like this one and a very light dusting of powder. I like this one because it doesn’t sink in my pores and lines.

The Best To Hold On

Goop Beauty Enriching Face Oil

I love Goop Beauty products (cannot live without the exfoliating instant facial), but this one was a little bit of let-down for the price. It made me the most oily faced, smelled a little of mosquito repellent (per my hubby) and couldn’t wear it long enough to see any results. I did start applying it to my neck so that I don’t waste it but I think the other 3 above are better buys. This oil is organic and it may have great results if you can continue wearing it for longer than I did (5 days).
