This post is sponsored by Literati but all views and opinions are my own.
When my eldest son was about 6 months old my mom (a child development expert and author) was aghast that he didn’t seem interested in books or flipping pages. “Aren’t you reading to him every night?!“, she asked. Ummm, he’s 6 months old! I thought it shouldn’t be part of our routine yet. She nodded disappointed and exclaimed, “you must be reading to him EVERY day! He needs to be flipping pages!”. Well that’s all it took for our family’s reading journey to begin. I immediately began reading to Matteo every evening before bedtime, and later his brother, and it’s still a happy routine to this day. I’m so happy that they see books as “fun time”. I’m excited to share my favorite kid’s book club, Literati Kids!
How Literati Works
Perhaps the love of books runs in the family! I remember being super excited to go to school on library days and ordering books from a catalog. For me too, reading is an escape and a great pleasure that I love being able to pass down to my boys. Having Literati Kids as a child would have been so amazing! The beauty of Literati Kids is that you’re paying for the delivery charge of the subscription box (monthly or annually) and then only paying for the books you keep. I love this because it’s a great way to take chances and have the kids explore genres without risk. I can already tell which ones are NOT going back because they keep revisiting them and sneaking away to study the images and details.
This is how it works:
- You create an online account and fill out your child’s birthday and name.
- The system then prompts you to their recommended box categories and you can choose from 2 if they are on the age or reading level cusp!
- You can then select the monthly ($9.95/month) or annual plan ($7.95/ month) .
- Receive your box, plus extra goodies and personalized stickers and explore!
- Return the books you’re not keeping and pay for the ones you keep forever!
My Favorite Kid’s Book Club- Unboxing Day
Unboxing day Literati Kids is quite the day in this house! From the beautiful colors and branding to custom stickers and variety, it’s awesome. I know that on unboxing day, I will get a couple of extra hours to myself because they are so entranced by their new books. The books come in this beautiful blue box that you can also use to send the books you’re not keeping back in. The return is free and if you do decide to keep some books, you’ll get them at unbeatable pricing. Even better than Amazon! Before the pandemic, the boys and I would often spend a Sunday afternoon at a bookstore reading together. This has been an amazing replacement to our little hobby that more than scratches the itch for new books and stories.
While they read a lot on their own, I still read to them every night. It’s always a treat for me too to get to read a fresh book. LOL There’s also Literati for adults that I’m so eager to try! I love that they go back and revisit the stories I read later on their own.
Benefits of my favorite kid’s book club
It’s no secret how much screen time we’re all getting right now. Much of the learning and socializing they do is on the screen. I have tested reducing screen time on and off and am always astounded at home much their behavior, mood and social skills improve when I limit it! Books definitely help me limit the screen time. While learning apps have their place and time, it’s such a breath of fresh air to see them holding a book! Their imaginations have to work so much harder and they are so much more stimulated with books. Whether it’s with the illustrations and beautiful design of a piece of art that is a book, it makes me proud when they ask to read.
Another benefit aside from the escape of reading a book, is finding its use as a reference. The boys know that when they read a book, they learn and can find answers they are looking for too. In short, reading is empowering them already and helping them develop their imaginations. It’s also super heartwarming to see them hold their own little book club of sorts and discuss their favorites amongst themselves!
Literati Kids Club Option
Literati Kids has 6 different Club Option types ranging from “Neo”, ages 0-3 and “Titan” for 13+ ages. We received both the “Sage”, ages 7-9 and :Nova”, ages 5-7, that Matteo and Henrick loved! The Sage is a little advanced for my first grader but he should be ready for those books by summer. They both loved the variety and exposure to titles that were new to them. Literati Kids especially curates these titles with the help of “educators, publishers, librarians, teachers, parents, and kids.” Ultimately you and your kids can make the final selections. However, you’ll love the exposure to different titles, authors and genres.
I hope you loved learning about my favorite kid’s book club! You’ll find how enriching it will be for your entire family and the price is hard to beat. Check out some of our favorite book packs in this post and our meal for picky eaters in this one. Keep reading and snuggling! Love, Z
