Is anyone gonna come up with a “happy to be me” jean? We’ve got mom, girlfriend, boyfriend, and now dad jeans! When I first saw these, they definitely reminded me of my dad, or Larry David, so it was hard to picture how to wear them. Many suggest doing sneakers or vans with a tee-shirt, but to me, that’s just turning yourself into your dad. 🙂 So here’s how to style dad jeans, plus 3 picks that are currently in stock that will flaunt your curves.
How to Style Dad Jeans
I really look for balance when styling anything and my approach to dad jeans was how do I make them hot? If not hot, then at least chic and feminine? My first approach is to juxtapose the straight-legged, relaxed fit and add a bit of edge. I picked out one of my most unique tops from Leal Descarett that forms a seeping sash after dramatically knotting in the middle. The cat-eyed sunnies provided the old school “guess girl” look with a throwback vibe. For shoes, I selected my super statement shoes, YSL Opium pumps. Because let’s face it, otherwise the look would be too comfortable. 🙂 For the bag, I chose a midi size that would not get swallowed up with my top and would provide function, much like a dad ;).
Key items for styling
Some different factors to play around with are:
- Add blazer! You can really change the look up and have a good work outfit with the right one. Mine’s from Club Monaco. Linked others.
- Your sunnies. Pair this look with Aviators or the Cat-eyed look.
- Heels & booties. If you don’t want to commit to an uncomfortable pump, there are so many chic fall booties to make a grand entrance with.
- Belts. Because I was wearing a midriff, I didn’t want a belt but if I were wearing a bodysuit OR tee, I would make sure to add a statement belt.
- The bag always finishes the look. I chose a midi bag to balance my lack of shirt but with a blazer or a chunky sweater, you can add a tiny bag, see examples here, and be street style perfect!
