I’m always on the look-out for healthy snacks on the go that contain my 3 super food nutrients! Like most of us, I’m always on the run! I eat in the car, at work, at the dance studio. Everywhere. Sometimes as a result of this, I can’t have a fresh, just prepared meal or snack but no matter what I try to uphold my key principles that I have for everything I eat. These are that they must contain: PROTEIN, FAT & FIBER. Knowing what these can do for you can really help with a fitness meal plan or just healthier eating in general.
Bob’s Red Mill Bars have these key nutrients that I’m after and I have really taken to them. They come in 5 amazing flavors, I tend to hog the peanut butter & jelly and my kids the apple! No matter which, they are all super tasty and have one that tastes like dessert; peanut butter chocolate! These bars have an awesome ration of my favorite nutrients coming in at: 8 grams of fat, 7 grams of protein and 3 grams of fiber give or take in all the bars! They are also NON-GMO certified and just one taste and you can tell they are better bars!
Why Fiber, Fat, & Protein?
When you have this awesome combination of nutrients your brain signals to your brain that 1) it’s satiated, 2) it’s flavorful 3) balances blood sugar levels, 4) the protein makes you stay full longer 5) you can stop eating. Literally all 3 work together to provide a great blood sugar state where you don’t feel ravenous after eating. I ALWAYS try to eat these 2 nutrients at every meal and snack and it has made a big difference in feeling full and nourished.
What other snacks have this super nutrient trio?
It’s not that hard to find once you’re looking for it, but it does take some creativity at first! These are my favorite combos:
- Whole Eggs any way (get protein & fat) + Apple (fiber)
- Chunky Guac (fiber, fat) & Chicken (protein)
- Cheese stick (fat, protein) & veggies (fiber
- Roasted brussel sprouts (fat, fiber) & prosciutto (protein)
- Chickpeas or hummus (fiber, protein) and tuna (protein)
These are just a few ideas to jog your brain. You are just searching for that combo of foods that will balance each other out. Have you ever noticed how hungry you are 30 minutes after eating just a banana? It’s because it’s primarily sugar and it burns through quite quickly leaving you starved! Next time add some protein to that banana, like milk in a milk shake and add chia seeds for fiber and you’ll be better off in the long run! What are you super food nutrients? Do you focus on them throughout the day?
In the meantime, check out these Bob’s Red Mill bars and let me know what you think! XO, Z
