Leather on Leather was all over the runways at NYFW Fall/Winter 2020 this month. I came armed with leather/vegan leather and pleather without knowing that I would see it everywhere. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with an all leather look. At times, I welcome the rebel chic, and others it feels like too much. Here are some ideas on how to wear the all leather trend, or what I called hi-gloss look at NYFW!
How to Wear the All Leather Trend
Black on Camel Leather
The use of the two colors helps break up the “tough girl” look a bit. I love it on occasion but sometimes you want a more classic vibe. I suggest having a camel/beige top or bottom and pairing with black inverse top or bottom. Look, plus better for budget bag, here.
Pop of Color Accessory
To also help break up a harsh tougher look, you can get an accessory that adds a pop of color! I choose a pop of color neutral in this maroon handbag. It’s unexpected an not too matchy matchy. :)A bright red or kelly green would of worked well also. Some ideas here:
Soften with Color
I loved this vegan mini dress from the get-go! To make it more feminine and less vixen like, I added a colorful coat and red leather boots! Still leather on leather but softens the inherently tougher look of leather. Get the look:
All black look with different textures
The high gloss look of vinyl and leather were a big focus for designer shows like Christian Siriano and LeQuan Smith. A way to achieve the look without melting (let’s face it leather/pleather and vinyl run warmer), is to use sequins or satin. I got the hi-gloss “leather look” with vinyl pants and a sequin puffer! The different textures give it a downtown feel I love! Get the look here:
All Neutral Color Look
When I think about how the upper east side would do all leather, an all camel look comes to mind. Always classic, never trying to hard, always elegant. Get the look with these pieces:
White Hot All Leather Trend
This all white look is just as much of a showstopper as you can get. It’s not too realistic for me to wear on a regular basis given that I have kids and let’s face it, LOVE coffee. 🙂 Here’s how to get the look:
