I depend on sunglasses on many levels! First of all, they complete any outfit and instantly elevate it to borderline street style. 😉 Then, you have the practical reason of protecting your eyes from the sun. However, my favorite is that you can have puffy no sleep, no make-up raggedy eyes, and nobody will know! I recently discovered Morgenthal Frederics, a boutique on Michigan Ave and I really like their sunglasses.
The boutique is beautifully positioned on one of my favorite blocks of Michigan Ave off Lakeshore across from the Drake Hotel. It’s on a corner and you can see the lake from this part of Michigan Ave making it beyond picturesque. Morgenthal Frederics is spacious and welcoming with a wide selection but not so wide that you don’t know where to start! The store manager graciously helped me navigate the different walls and the different designers. They carry other luxury sunglasses, besides their own including Cartier at the store but not online.
My Pick
I chose a classic framed pair that felt super glam! It was love at first sight. The “186” is part of the heritage collection and these are glasses that are instant classics. I get so many compliments when I wear them. They are very protective which is great for anti-aging and for covering up those mama dark circles. 🙂 Linked here.
Morgenthal Frederics Collaborations
Morgenthal Frederics likes to collaborate with different designers for a one of kind design! Some collaborations at the moment are:
MONSE x MORGENTHAL FREDERICS
This collection is really minimalist inspired. Many of the frames don’t overbear on the face and select different colored lenses for drama. Along with the colorful palette are different shapes for the frames. I love playing around with frames since not all suit my face.
Amber $475
Erica $495
OSCAR DE LA RENTA x MORGENTHAL FREDERICS
This collection is definitely the creme of the crop! On the Holly Horn you can see Audrey Hepburn influences and overall drama of the classic frames. These are fun to try on even if you can’t see yourself spending the money. I also love seeing iterations of these shapes influence other more affordable frames. The TWIST I is a gorgeous take on the cat-eye, make sure to check out TWIST II as well, made from titanium!
Holly Horn $2495
Twist I $495
ROSIE ASSOULIN X MORGENTHAL FREDERICS
This collaboration is pure fun. Full of risk taking shapes colors and frames, this is for you if you’re ready to stand out from the crowd! The sunglasses remind me of a futuristic character or even anime. Looking at Rosie Assoulin’s clothing designs, I can see the common thread between those and the sunglasses. Lots of patterns, originality and bold statments.
SUNNY S-EYED UP $495
GOBSTOPPER $535
Optical Glasses
Now if you’re in need of just being able to see, they’ve also got you covered in their Optical department. Just like their sunglasses, these are quality frames that you don’t see EVERYWHERE else. Taking a gander in this section, I would love a pair of smart glasses! I got lasik so don’t need any yet, but will probably need reading glasses in a few years! 🙂 Check out these fun designs.
BLAKE KUWAHARA $615
MILA $365
I wanted to share my experience with this awesome brand and boutique! If you’re looking for unique frames and investment sunglasses to elevate your everyday look, I recommend that you give them a visit at their boutiques or online!
