Nicole Miller at NYFW 2019 was pure joy! She needs little introduction as an OG designer and her longevity speaks for itself. I had the pleasure of attending her show last season at NYFW and loved every second. As a 90’s girl through and through, her collection spoke to me with the combat boots, graphics and textures. There was something about the collection I can’t put my finger on that was both nostalgic and also entirely brand new.
I got to meet the icon herself before the show. Nicole Miller was so present and gracious for someone who was about to “show” and was about to pour out her heart and soul into the runway. I couldn’t help but think that I would be a nervous wreck and probably wouldn’t be in the mood to meet fashion bloggers. However, she kindly took a picture and thanked me and my friend for coming!
The Philosophy
Nicole Miller’s clothes, in my opinion, have usually been about fun, color, edgy and youthful vibes. I believe that in recent seasons, she has begun to incorporate sustainability. Along this vein, the clothes are young and spirited, and they appeal and are inspired by Gen Zers. Although not a Gen Zer myself, I too am attracted to her message of sustainability and designing for fun!
The Show
The music was so fun and modern and kept the energy up! I also noted that the models were deliberately upbeat and strutting to the beats. I feel the music in these Fashion Shows is such a character it was amazing to see it match the clothes so well. Here are some of my favorite looks:
The Audience
The audience was so fun. I got to meet a few favorites here that I took all my will power not to freak out on. Along with Nicole Miller herself, I met Carol Alt, Olivia Rink and other bloggers that I was only “friends” with on Instagram. Since this was a later show (7 PM start), everyone was in the mood to party a bit. Every one I met was so sweet and of course made the show that much more memorable.
The Influence
Since Nicole Miller at NYFW 2019, I’ve seen a few influences with other designers. There increasingly more sustainability conscious designers and brands. The 90’s seem to be peppered in through many looks through Spring/Summer. Chunky shoes, pattern/texture plays, slip dresses and edge are prevalent.
You can check out Nicole Miller at many major retailers and buy directly from her site also! You can learn about my first season at NYFW here and another show I saw in February here! XO, Z
