When I was a little girl my mom was the queen of jumpsuits! I remember her wearing them with huge platforms and statement belts. She would wear these outfits casually actually, it wasn’t like a big outing or event just the drop-off or grocery store visit. I recall thinking that she was a movie star! Since then, whenever I see a jumpsuit I think of that era. I haven’t gotten many jumpsuits throughout the years because no matter how iconic, I still wasn’t ready to dress like my mom. Welp! I’m ready now I guess. When she saw this number, she was very nostalgic and it made me realize how much sentimental value our clothes have. For example, I have about a dozen pieces that no matter how much I’ll never wear, I cannot bear to part with. Some remind me of a date, a professional achievement or sometimes just an event where I felt great, and I somehow want to hang on to that feeling. I have to hide these items from my husband who LOVES to “help” clean out my closet.
This outfit came about really organically. I fell in love with the jumpsuit and the pumps seemed perfect for a classic vibe that could be compatible with the 80’s look and feel! By the way, get these pumps or these flats 15% off this week with code ZIBA at Mary Borja! 🙂 I kept it really simple with just red & black to really feature the jumpsuit against a black canvas. The finishing touch was a black tweed jacket by tweed jacket master Karl Lagerfeld and big earrings!
I look forward to styling this outfit with sneakers and maybe denim for a completely different look that might take me to the 90’s?! Do you have outfits that you just can’t part ways with? Would love to hear about them and the stories behind them. xo, Z
